Cheap Garmin Nuvi 1490T 5" Sat Nav Bundle

Review and Buying Guide of Cheap Garmin Nuvi 1490T 5

Garmin 1490t satnav. Garmin nuvi 1490 traffic satellite navigation program with european mapsthis is my first satnav and so far above the last two months i have been pleased with it. Even so two items bug me. Firstly the voice is inconsistent in the pronounciation of road quantities. Eg at times it will be 'a four, two just one for a421' then for the next street instruction it can be 'a 4 thousand two hundred and twenty two' for the a4222.

Why this really should be like it is beats me, it does not assist uncomplicated comprehension devoid of near concentration. Next the european maps obtain is about three. 5gb, and my usual internet speed is 2. 5mb, however when downloading from garmin the obtain is all-around 40-50kp with down load time of around 15 hours assuming no disconnects. This is plainly archaic and i take note quite a few many others have encountered related complications.

Fantastic value for revenue sat nav, bye bye tom tom. Immediately after 3 yrs of faithful provider my tom tom begun offering me critical troubles so i made a decision adequate is sufficient. I'm an engineer who performs in london, as a result a fantastic sat nav is need to. A whole lot of other engineers experienced garmins and generally spoke very of them, they are normally less costly then the similar tom tom and soon after really a bit of research i selected the nuvi 1490. Have been utilizing this solution practically everyday and i adore it in each way.

The large five inch screen is a have to, i don't know how i utilized a 4 inch display screen now for so many a long time. It makes it so a lot a lot easier to read and significantly less difficult to use the contact screen. The menus are a minimal unique to the tom tom's (acquiring to find by way of the menus no matter whether or not to stay clear of the congestion charging zone was annoying since tom tom will generally request straight absent when you prepare a journey but after you find the option its great). The interface is extremely straight forward to use providing you a huge option of in which to and will save places to glance up rapidly by way of favouritesthe detour feature is merely excellent, has saved me sitting in traffic for several hours at a time and helping me use the back again roads to get home as i live in dartford and in some cases i do the job in north london. The tmc is a bit strike and skip, it will always explain to you about traffic but only if its documented through the traffic information but in some cases it will not likely give an alternate route, just telling me 40 minutes hold off and not supplying other solution (but this is the place the detour route planning is good).

Negative Review of Garmin Nuvi 1490T 5" Sat Nav Bundle with UK and Full Europe Maps, Bluetooth and Free Lifetime Traffic

Probably my last garmin. I've only ever had garmins, marine and road, but this is probably my last. My previous garmin was getting old and not worth upgrading the maps, so i got a new garmin for xmas. Widescreen, unlimited updates, great.Unfortunately there are several issues.

When finding some streets, old streets, sometimes the postcode search does not find them but the road name search does, and vice versa. Trying a different order on the road name search gets different results. This is all the worse when driving on the road in question. The system does know the road name and your position. Garmin has decided to show points of interest wether you want them or not.

Stick with It!. Nearly brought about a divorce the to start with time we utilized it but that's not the machine's fault! labored o. K. Out of the box, effortless to set up - link to computer to update organization ware (do this on a regular basis for ongoing updates). Maps clear,(while a couple of evident faults)spoken recommendations distinct while woman voice considerably less unique. Traffic jam updates very good. Third get together pois plentiful but keep in mind to upload all the things at a person go as former inputs are overwritten. Operates for me - a respectable piece of package. Addendum to earlier mentioned - if you are updating maps make sure you have, a incredibly speedy world wide web relationship, a rapidly cpu, a great deal of time. And patience. Took me about 9 tries in excess of 3 times to eventually get almost everything sorted. If the downloader appears to be like as if it is accomplishing a thing, it likely is! it is really just flaming gradual. Also i hope the update is key in any other case it's a whole lot of hard work for maybe pretty tiny. .

Some Challenges, But Excellent Total. This appears to be to be a merchandise that divides feeling. Yes, i recognise most of the criticisms that have been produced by other reviewers, but i also imagine they can be prevail over to a huge diploma. For instance:1. Acquire a dashboard mount: i obtain this invaluable, offering someplace to tuck spare wiring, as properly as making elimination from the car or truck that considerably less difficult. 2. Accurate, the touchscreen can be annoying at very first, but with practice mistakes develop into significantly rarer. Of system, the simplest way to use a satnav is just to place your place in and enable the satnav choose you there, but we all know the challenges that can develop, when the satnav thinks that impassable keep track of is a wonderful brief slash, averting the want to choose the major road miles further more. The great gain of the nüvi 1490 is that you can use it away from the automobile to approach and simulate routes. If you imagine the satnav is wrong you can often modify the route by including waypoints. As with human beings, it cannot be envisioned to react to details it has not gained, so if there is no fm signal or no info out there, you may nevertheless be caught in a queue. Nonetheless, whilst driving from the north east to the midlands lately, i twice had motive to be grateful for its skill to re-route in the facial area of traffic difficulties up ahead, so this is a valuable feature, even with its restrictions. Lastly, the nüvi 1490 is not just a satnav for the car or truck. It's light-weight-excess weight and its pedestrian method indicates you can keep on to us it when you have left the vehicle, enabling you to avoid obtaining lost in town. So, all in all, this satnav may well not nonetheless be the reply to all our goals, but it's continue to the best i have occur throughout. .

Garmin Nuvi 1490. I bought this satnav to drive as a result of the wilds of the gers in sw france but regretably, the to start with one gave up in advance of i had still left the wilds of sw london. Thankfully amazon's superb replacement procedure intended that i even now had a single in advance of setting off, though no time to check out it out. The simple fact that i'm even now awarding this 5 stars in spite of that hiccup is an indication of how significantly i liked it. Which journal had advisable it and i completely see why. The most handy aspect for me was the monitor that popped up just about every time you experienced to adjust motorways in france showing the related motorway signal and highlighting the appropriate lane to consider. This was my 1st time driving in europe, i was on your own, and this piece of machines entirely de-pressured the journey. Few of probs prompted i suspect by my lack of time for try out-out. Make guaranteed that you choose swiftest, not shortest, route normally you'll uncover by yourself going cross region!evidently you can bluetooth your cell phone in to permit you to faucet the display to response, but i haven't received close to to that nonetheless. I was remaining in a very small hamlet in the center of nowhere, but all the tracks have been on the map as opposed to the borrowed tomtom i made use of before in the year. The garmin display screen was also substantially easier and far better marked out than the tomtom. Genuinely an excellent acquire, and i would not hesitate to suggest it to any-a person, but significantly to any-a single who wishes a easy to run piece of devices that works proficiently and is just not way too highly-priced. .

Conclusion of Garmin Nuvi 1490T 5" Sat Nav Bundle

At some point chosen this garmin right after looking at a great deal of other gps models. It works, and it arrives free with the unit (of course i am talking to you tomtom with your overpriced optional fm aerials). Rather than just expressing 'turn still left in x', it really tells you the title of the road you will need to acquire (and really remarkably pronounces every little thing appropriately). Tends to make a significant distinction when driving in a town as you no more time have to look at the gps monitor to check out in which it thinks it is, and hence exactly where the 2nd remaining truly is. Lovely big screen, full put up-code look for, lane guidance, highway-name speech, bundled fm traffic, awesome basic, crystal clear gui, european maps.

This is my next satnav, bought to change a quite good 1 produced by sony, who have now ceased to generate satnavs, so that having map updates was a difficulty. Its estimate of arrival instances is a bit optimistic, but, there again, i have not related the traffic information aerial still, so it's possible that can be excused. The maps surface to be extremely up-to-day - it was superior to be equipped to get a free update just soon after order. Out of the box, effortless to set up - join to personal computer to update organization ware (do this on a common foundation for ongoing updates). Traffic jam updates excellent.

Addendum to earlier mentioned - if you are updating maps make positive you have, a quite quick web connection, a speedy cpu, loads of time. Of training course, the most straightforward way to use a satnav is just to set your location in and allow the satnav choose you there, but we all know the issues that can generate, when the satnav thinks that impassable track is a good small slice, avoiding the will need to consider the principal highway miles even further. If you assume the satnav is completely wrong you can constantly adjust the route by introducing waypoints. Having said that, whilst driving from the north east to the midlands not long ago, i twice experienced rationale to be grateful for its capacity to re-route in the face of traffic issues up forward, so this is a beneficial aspect, irrespective of its limitations. The most valuable feature for me was the monitor that popped up each and every time you had to improve motorways in france demonstrating the suitable motorway indication and highlighting the suitable lane to acquire.

This was my first time driving in europe, i was alone, and this piece of machines absolutely de-pressured the journey. Make confident that you select quickest, not shortest, route if not you can come across your self heading cross countryapparently you can bluetooth your cellular phone in to permit you to faucet the monitor to answer, but i have not bought close to to that however. I was staying in a little hamlet in the middle of nowhere, but all the tracks had been on the map not like the borrowed tomtom i used previously in the yr. The garmin screen was also much easier and far better marked out than the tomtom. Each sons experienced owned garmins for some time and preferred them to my tom tom the 1490 seemed to do anything that i wanted (and far more) and i must say i have not been let down: slim, light-weight extensive, crystal clear contact - display screen spoken road names velocity digital camera audible warnings new display appears at a junction advising of lane positioning (excellent) visible warning of rushing etcetera.

The monitor structure can be improved, and a full readout of your planned journey in text or on a map is there. I'd propose that you update maps instantly from the garmin web-site (incredibly quick) and also set up a duplicate of mapsource on your computer system - this permits you to approach your journey in its entirety at your leisure, and then add it to the gps. Touching the display screen (which wants stress, not like the capacitance-variety monitor on the tom tom) brings up all kinds of sub-menus, and with a little bit of trial and error gets to be easy to use. Locating my way round its different capabilities took time. It is needed to obtain a handbook from garmin to get a full picture of its functionality and procedure.

I would advise getting time to investigate the procedure of the sat nav. There are a handful of steps you have to work by to sign up the sat nav with garmin, and subsequently to obtain updates, and to get the hottest map update (in just 2 months). The map down load for case in point can just take a number of hrs, and then it usually takes a even more hour or so to install the downloads on to the nuvi. The map download was successful i am pleased to say, notwithstanding that i misplaced the net link fifty percent way via.In 3 months i have linked my nuvi to the personal computer various situations and every time i connect i get the information that there are application updates readily available.

First of all thank you to every person else who's taken the time to evaluate this. On the energy of viewpoint i did acquire this device- and have observed the adhering to points with it:1) hefty cable- certainly it is cumbersome- but in my feeling only a little moreso than my outdated 205w electrical power direct- and is powering the traffic aerial to boot- so easy to understand. When the traffic work although it is excellent- and is as superior as obtaining aa traffic studies appropriate less than your nose. When i first been given it- and used it on one of my journeys i did encounter problems around it locking up- which it did three situations in excess of said 4hr journeys. I did update the firmware- and it manufactured small change, but because then garmin have releaves yet another software program update by their internet site and as of 27th dec this seems to be supplying the device reliability on a par with the 205w- as i was anticipating in the very first place4) map updates.

Indeed i have downloaded my free update the device did need it- a range of junctions on the route were not shown appropriately but now are. 5mb through) the uncompression and installation took a similiar time to the down load- and i would strongly propose a more recent laptop to do this on. The overhead junction structure prepare the unit exhibits i also locate a pleasant touch- and can help keep issues clearer- and considerably improved that the 205wi do like the larger dimensions #it enables a more substantial speaker so you can listen to the bulletins less difficult) and always have appreciated the garmin interface- which is pretty substantially the very same as the 205w. Possessing been utilised earlier to out-of-day mapping this garmin was a serious treasure locating routes for effortless driving. After really a large amount of time exploring the many models out there i identified that the garmin 1490t, as opposed to tomtom, delivers latest lifetime traffic delay info and re-routes your journey if there are delays in advance.

Obtaining tried this on a lengthy (250 mile) journey i uncovered that a much more intuitive route diversified the anticipated arrival time by as significantly as more than an hour - presumably having a for a longer time route and therefore defeating the object of saving gasoline. Will obtain out in the fullness of time. Obtaining experienced a tomtom in the previous, i come across the garmin so a lot less complicated to use. The sound is superior and the warnings are timely. Luckily it does operate in my property (with the aerials draped across the furniture), and when it will work, it will work very well.

The way that this satnav warns you of heavy traffic ahead is handy, but not one hundred% accurate. I have examined it out a number of situations on routes that i know fairly perfectly. I acquired this satnav to substitute a sony device, and was let down from the outset. The mapping display could be 'standard garmin', but confirmed small modify from the one that my wife's 5 12 months previous nuvi has it looks dated. I chose this device for the free traffic information and facts, and that is a advantage when it performs.

A Lesson Learnt. I unfortunately made the mistake of leaving my previous sat nav on the windscreen overnight after a long day at the wheel - not an excuse for having the side window smashed and of course, stolen. Having been used previously to out-of-date mapping this garmin was a real treasure finding routes for easy driving. I have yet to update with the latest data but have so far been pleased and impressed with the useful and comprehensive information loaded in this machine. For instance, if you need to find the nearest halfords store to wherever you may be - there it is! literally touch and go. This also applies to most stores, food places (fast or otherwise) and accomodation whether hotel or campsite as well as all the local places of interest of course. Full addresses and phone numbers are all there too. After quite a lot of time researching the various units out there i found that the garmin 1490t, unlike tomtom, offers current lifetime traffic delay information and re-routes your journey if there are delays ahead. Tomtom is just for the first year and then only on subscription. I also like the little 'bong bong' when approaching speed cameras and a further 'bong' if you are exceeding the limit. This also applies to areas where mobile cameras may be in operation. The only feature i am not exactly convinced with is the so-called 'eco-route'. Having tried this on a long (250 mile) journey i found that a more intuitive route varied the anticipated arrival time by as much as over an hour - presumably taking a longer route and thereby defeating the object of saving fuel. Maybe this works better on short trips. Will find out in the fullness of time. So there it is - a versatile sat nav with enough features for most travellers, taking the strain away from searching for signposts, getting in the wrong lane on motorways and possibly picking up an(other) sp30 ticket on the way. The dedicated leather case and mains charger are of very good quality too. I can definitely recommend the garmin 1490t. .

My Second Gps My Second Garmin. Firstly thank you to everyone else who's taken the time to review this. On the strength of opinion i did buy this unit- and have found the following points with it:1) hefty cable- yes it is bulky- but in my opinion only slightly moreso than my old 205w power lead- and is powering the traffic aerial to boot- so understandable. I personally wrap the excess bulk around my cupholder- but can understand other reviewers concerns over this. 2) the additional aerial and suckers i find too short. I could do with it being 50% longer, and another sucker- and i suspect causes a poor traffic reception- moreso than it should. I have lost reception for upto 1hr on a 4hr journey east-west via birmingham. When the traffic work though it is brilliant- and is as good as having aa traffic reports right under your nose. 3) software issues. When i first received it- and used it on one of my journeys i did experience issues over it locking up- which it did 3 times over said 4hr journeys. This seemed to be related to a) poor connection with the lighter socket and b) just using the device sometimes also caused a lockup and reset- at some very bad moments! fortuantely it went back to where it left off. I did update the firmware- and it made little difference, but since then garmin have releaves another software update through their site and as of 27th dec this appears to be giving the unit reliability on a par with the 205w- as i was expecting in the first place!4) map updates. Yes i have downloaded my free update the unit did need it- a number of junctions on the route weren't shown correctly but now are. Yes it is a whopping 3+gb's worth and did take a good couple of hours on my 8mb broadband verified running at 7. 5mb throughout) the uncompression and installation took a similiar time to the download- and i would strongly recommend a newer pc to do this on. Suggest to set the download going and then leave it- probably best done overnight. Do the same with the installation- this is one process that will take a long while- so just let it run its course. 5) junction view- does what it says. But not for every single interchange. I've found it only does for major motorway and dual carriageway interchanges, but you can call it in advance by clicking the lane button in top left, and clicking junction view. I find this a quirk- but personally find it nice it can be called on demand from about 2 miles beforehand. The overhead junction layout plan the unit shows i also find a nice touch- and helps keep things clearer- and much better that the 205wi do like the bigger size #it allows a bigger speaker so you can hear the announcements easier) and always have liked the garmin interface- which is pretty much the same as the 205w. It's nice put onto a bigger screen though. Overall i like this. It would of scored it higher, had i not had the issue over the software updates. .
