The Best TomTom GO 730 Satellite Navigation System

Review and Buying Guide of The Best TomTom GO 730 Satellite Navigation System

This little device helped me a lot when i was settling down in a new place, lots of options to enter address, nice menu. Needs to be updated from time to time.

Glad i stuck with tomtom for my new satnav. Its nice to keep getting map updates, free at present but when the 2 years is up i will have to get them less often. Toured france this summer (2009) and the tomtom was top of my list of essential items, the next was walkie talkies to keep in touch with another family following us just behind and then the airconditioning in the car.

  • Poor tech support
  • Good when working
  • Not enough memory

Negative Review of TomTom GO 730 Satellite Navigation System

Features of TomTom GO 730 Satellite Navigation System

A Good, Reliable Product. I've had this product a couple of months now. Generally it is a good, reliable product and i really like it. Make sure you get your free map upgrades during the first month of ownership. However, you'll need a 4gb sd card to do this, as the device itself doesn't quite have the capacity for the latest maps. A shame, but an sd card only costs around 6 quid kingston technology 4gb secure digital high capacity class4 card. Take your time to familiarise yourself with how it operates, and install all the updates you require. Also be prepared to search the tomtom site and google to answer queries. Having said that, so long as you are willing to put a little bit of effort in up front then it's a good product. I suspect if you just take it out the box, plug it in and go then you may have difficulties. But a little time investment up front pays off. I find it's timing of journeys so far to have been excellent, only minor map errors. You can plan routes that stop or pass by places of interest. The only thing it doesn't do that i would like is to be able to put in a list of places to stop and have it plan the best route between them, e. G. Fastest route. . All it does is plan a route in the order you place them. But if you were say a delivery driver then you would probably want the fastest route, which it doesn't do. Other than that. Great! by the way, would also recommend getting portable weighted cushion friction mount with arm and holder for the tomtom go 520, 720, 920, 530, 730 and 930. This is reliable, i've used it fine in 3 different cars, and it means there are no tell-tale signs in your car that you have a satnav to be nicked!.

Generally Happy, Home Software Could Be Better. I'm very happy with the device - bluetooth, voice recognition, places of interest etc. I had a problem with downloading the new maps that came with the product. It turned out to be because my tom tom home software (even when new) was an old version. The tom tom home software checks for anything new needed for the device, but not for itself (which is somewhere else on a different menu). So if you get problems, check you have the most recent tom tom home software. I tried calling and gave up twice after 10 mins on hold. I did get a reply to the online reporting process after 5 days (promise 2) which gave hope, but i sorted the problem out myself. Nice device. Good luck!.

Good Companian. Bought this after i lost my first sat nav a garmin 265wt within 3 months of buying it. I looked at quite a few models and considered this as best value for money. It has all the features of a good satnav and is quick in locating the satelites. There are only 2 minor issues with this1) the screeen is difficult to read in dalylight when the light reflects from the bashboard on the screen - i did not have this problem in the garmin2) its fiddly to hook up to the windscreen and the suction can fall off at times , again garmin was better here as it has a locking mechanismother wise in terms of navigation and features this model has it all.

Conclusion of TomTom GO 730 Satellite Navigation System

Quick and clear route planning, the wide touch screen is very good. Should you ignore it, it very quickly comes up with route correction, updating distances and arrival time. Most of the mapping systems on the net (google et al) don't even spell my village correctly. So i bought this device with my eyes unblinkered, but very much interested in the map share facility where users can update road changes, location errors etc.

The update tells the unit where the required satellites will be for a short period of time. I did not use the tomtom traffic updates and poi's as i get them from pocketgps world. So pros and conspro: the same good quality mapping system, compact and reliable so far. Make sure you get your free map upgrades during the first month of ownership.

The price was good, the delivery was good and the product is great. Even in france the tomtom warned me of speed cameras (which sometimes were no longer there) and the speed limits speed limits. With the device giving you an estimated time of arrival, you can map your route and before leaving decide if it is too far or not. I bought this some time ago, it works extremely well and continues to do so. There is insufficient memory built in to the device to have more than europe maps, i have had to load my maps onto a hc sd card hopefully this is addressed in the newer models.

Glad i stuck with tomtom for my new satnav. Its nice to keep getting map updates, free at present but when the 2 years is up i will have to get them less often. Brought this as i'm traveling round the usa, australia and new zealand so wanted something to take with me.

Having to buy updated maps for a brand new device in order to take advantage of future map updates is a complete rip off. You can also fix or make some updates on your maps. Bought it when my ageing tomtom 700 gave up the ghost - but the screen mount is a nightmare. Thanks. Works well got us home from strange places. Love the new feature that predicts the correct route times too - so much more accurate.

Not as easy to use as the garmin that i had, but does its job and works well with tom tom home. Have had 4 tom tom's and they keep getting better. Well pleased. Basically what you read below in all the other reviews is correct in one way or the other so there aint no need for me to bable on, the one 'problem' with this system & no doubt all the other tomtoms is the map corrections programme. It's not all the map corrections but rather the speed corrections, the idea is that a road that you are travelling on has no speed limit on the gps system, using the map corrections you can insert the speed limit for the section of road you are on, you download it on tomtom home & it updates everyone with map share, brilliant, as long as it's not between the limits of 20mph or 30mph, it rounds it up or down to 19mph or 31mph depending on what you type in. Tomtom say they will fix it with new updates but that was over six months ago, i've been informed that it's a problem with both the usa & uk speed limits.

If your buying it for the idea of helping others & maybe trying to make your town a little safer with all the neds speeding about you might be wasting your time. I had a navigon unit that would not display the correct time. Only problem, light reflection at times, finding it difficult to find visor. Just download new map and go.
