The Best Garmin zumo 350LM 4

Good product let down by service. Bought this sat nav with life time maps, but it does not connect to garmin express without which you cannot have map updates, tried everything and contacting garmin customer service without any reply. See no point in a good product without any service back up, and software problems are not unknown.

I like the facility to quickly hunt down fuel stations. I like the facility to quickly hunt down fuel stations. Got me out of trouble on more than one occasion.

The on/off button failed within a week. Got a replacement and the software failed on 15/5.

Received another one which failed on 23/8. The latest one will now not turn on leaving me in spain without any way of getting it repaired. I only use the unit on my bike for 3 months each summer so it is not like it has done any work. Even when it does operate it often takes me on a country waltz for hours before taking me back to the hotel i just checked out of. This is my second garmin zumo and both have died on me.

Review. This device whilst capable is not over user friendly. It requires out of the box thinking for using some of its features and it is not as intuitive to use as the tomtom rider to use. Is it better than the tomtom? in some respects yes, in other respects no. Wish i could combine the best of both on one unit. .

Across Europe with Ease. Had a zumo 550 which died 1 week before touring europe. Bought the 350, wired it to the bike and for two weeks hassle free biking to austria and back. It paired to my schuberth blue tooth first time, sound was clear and connection was never lost. I found this to be a brilliant product. .

You Get What You Pay For - Good, Solid Product. It does what it says on the tin and i like the logging feature that records your journey as you go. I wired mine in to the electrics on my bike and it works well, coming on and off when i put the key in and out of the ignition 'on' position, which i like. Easy enough to use with gloves on while riding and i use mine in the car as well occasionally as it comes with a car kit too. .

Conclusion of Garmin zumo 350LM 4

I have a garmin for the car but one for the bike is new ground. Ok, the mounts good, everything you need to bolt it up. It has a supply lead to the garmin that runs all the way under the tank that then plugs into the gps mount (don`t lose the tiny screw that secures the plug. I have an optimate loom fitted for charging, so i bought an extension lead for the charger then cut the end off and soldered the garmin supply onto it. Backgroundi bought this as a replacement for a garmin zūmo 550.

I was quite happy with the 550 but recently the motorcycle mount stopped working when it filled up with water, corroding the internal electronics. Also the power pin on the gps unit itself partially burnt and pitted creating an intermittent connection on both the car and bike mounts. I could have bought another used zūmo 550 and mount but was tempted by the design of new 350lm (i never considered the less robust looking 660) and liked the concept of lifetime maps. I prefer the zūmo 350lm case design - the all black sits better with my black bike. Installationgarmin have cleverly removed all the electronics from the mounts, which based on my recent experience is a good idea.

If the mount should become damaged by weather the only part that is likely to need replacing is the power cable. The 350lm runs on 5v so the 12v bike power needs to be stepped down and filtered and to do this they have added an inline box that's a bit bigger than a matchbox, along with a noise filter. This would be fine in a car, but on a bike?. Where are you supposed to mount this box?.If you like your mp3s on your sat nav you need to buy the 660lm.

To get around these connectivity issue i'm now forced to buy a scala g4 solo motorcycle handsfree bluetooth headset so i can stream music from the iphone to the headset and pair it with the 350lm to hear voice prompts (voice prompts automatically dip the sound from the iphone). In short to be able to listen to music occasionally has now become a whole lot more complicated than simply plugging in my ear buds and clipping the zūmo 550 onto the mount. Now if i want music and voice prompts, even if i only use either occasionally, i must have a bluetooth headset attached - and that's another thing to charge overnightvoice promptsthe voice prompts don't sound as rich and full bodied as the 550. I guess because the 550 had an mp3 player it also has a good quality amplifier inside - or at least inside the motorcycle mount. Screenthe display is sharper than the 550 but garmin have gone for more detail and reality in the map software which in my opinion just makes it harder to read.

The first manufacturer who comes up with a sat nav that works in portrait rather than widescreen orientation will have a hit i'm sure. One new function i encountered is when you get closer to your destination the 350lm automatically switches to a higher detailed map setting, which is useful, until you accidentally miss a turn and ride away from your destination and the 350lm doesn't switch backthe lane assist seems to work fine but it does split the screen when activated on so you really have to look carefully to see where you are going. Nice idea in theory but the small speed digits turn red when you exceed the limit and make them even harder to readconclusionif my 550 hadn't died i think i'd probably be sending the 350lm back for a full refund and buying a used zūmo 550 and new motorcycle mount (. Easy enough to use with gloves on while riding and i use mine in the car as well occasionally as it comes with a car kit too. Quality bit of kit, easy to install on sports bike, works fine, can be used easy in car, all the bits in the box for that, works straight from the box, i think garmin is better than tomtom i use tom tom in my car, tha garmin is better. This sat nav ticks all the boxes, only one small snag is when it's in the mount and i'm using it, the power connection keeps dropping off, but this may be to user set up rather than the product, but all in all a bloody good product. The zumo works well and is a good replacement for my old garmin quest. Headset can be connected by a simple bluetooth connection.

The best part of 300 quid for a sat nav seems a lot to pay but consider what you get over and above a 'normal' car mounted version it really is pretty good. A rough count up of what the ram mount bits and bike charger, all supplied, cost and the additional waterproofing and protection actually doesn't cost that much. )the unit paired easily with my bluetooth headset and worked well on it's first run out. It's easy to pair with a bluetooth headset, whilst you can only clearly in 30 zones, there is enough sound to make you look at the screen when necessary. Yes it is more expensive than a car sat nav but it it is waterproof. See how long the car one would work on the bike without additional protection. I bought this for a trip to italy on a motor bike. Bike mount and wiring loom worked great.

Missing the sound in the helmed, from part of that the directions works just fine.

Garmin Zumo. The zumo works well and is a good replacement for my old garmin quest. The only downside is the basecamp software that is now used for the route planning on a computer. It is slow, not very user friendly and the maps are slow to render on the computer as you move around. The older mapsource works very well and easily so i now plan routes on it, save them and then reload them into basecamp so i can load them into the zumo. Garmin have ruined a great satnav by forcing the use of this very poor basecamp software. .
