If you just wish to use this in the uk then this is a good buy but if you plan on expanding it with other countries then think twice. The 512mb internal memory is adequate for the uk maps and would let you load extras like new poi's and other extras.
But bear in mind that the maps of america and canada are over 900mb alone so if you plan on doing some traveling abroad then look at a different sat nav. The only reason i can see for tomtom removing the memory card slot is to encourage people to buy their higher spec models by removing an impotant feature from the one.
